I’m in the beginning stages of planning a Hawaii vacation for 2010 and I’m not sure if I should have 2 stops to my flight or just one. Also – if you can recommend a hotel that would be great too.

That would all depend on how you handle long flights.
If you don’t mind being on a plane for 5+ hours, I’d schedule a flight that stops once, in CA for example. If not, I guess you could go from Philly to Chicago then to Cali then to Hawai’i but this would add time to your travel time and be more stressful, in my opinion.
As far as a hotel recommendation, that depends on where in Hawai’i you’re going? Have you decided on an island yet?
By far, most visitors to Hawai’i go to Waikiki Beach. Waikiki is part of Honolulu, which is on the island of O’ahu.
If you do decide on Waikiki Beach, I’d recommend one of the resorts right on the beach, or right across the street, if your budget allows it. The Hyatt Regency or the Hilton Hawaiian Village are two of the big resorts that come to mind.
If you do decide to stay in this area, be sure to venture off a bit. See Pearl Harbor and the Pali Lookout, head to the North Shore, especially in winter to see huge waves, go to the windward side of the island where you’ll see more locals than tourists.
Whatever you decide, I wish you a great trip to Hawai’i!
