I’ve heard that it’s extremely cheap to travel to Iceland these days, because of the depreciating krona; which airlines travel there these days? What’s the ballpark cost of a round-trip ticket from Washington, DC, to Reykjavik, Iceland?

I’ve heard of people being “bumped” while traveling allowing them to receive free tickets for the inconvienence. I would not mind being bumped if the airlines would compensate me with free tickets for my next trip.

David B asked: Here’s the dilemma… somebody has a visitor who needs to delay her return flight home. Her Northwest airline ticket is for Monday (2 days from now). Problem is… she’s already exchanged the ticket twice to push the return date out — at a cost of $150 each time. Now that she needs to delay the return again (and honestly doesn’t know the new date), would it be best to simply get a refund on the original ticket and buy a new one-way ticket? That seems like it would be very expensive (and I’m not even sure a refund is available). Another option is to pick a future date and push the flight back again — but another $150 is also expensive (that’s $450 on top of the original ticket price just for the 3 extensions).
Help! What are the best options? Priceline for a last-minute one-way ticket when the return date is known? (Haven’t had luck with that in the past.)

It was just announced in the EU Observer today that the European Union has a plan to require airlines, especially foreign airlines, that use European airports to buy a permit that covers their carbon emissions. Other nations could adopt this as well. Could this mean the end of air travel in Europe and around the world?
